Today started great woke up refreshed and ready for the day and this is what greeted me 🙂
Packed up camp and said my goodbyes to my new friend Eric. I probably won’t see him anymore on this trip as he rides faster and I’m quoting early today to relax for my birthday.
As I met up with US101 out of the park this is what I saw which set a great tone for the day. Was in happy spirits.
Decided to stop at the Yaquina Head Lighthouse which was really nice.
Newport OR was a neat little town. Took an off the highway route along NW Ocean view Dr. which was quite pretty (the riding was too pleasant to take pictures 🙂
The route through a nice parks that ends at the entrance to the Yaquina Bay Bridge which I will cross to continue on my journey.
The highway out of Newport was unremarkable except the it reminded me a lot of Mississippi. I know two completely different places but I’m not gonna argue with myself 🙂
Halfway to Seal Rock I can across this posh little community.
And right across the highway was this place. I thought the juxtaposition was funny and laughed 🙂
Got the message that I wouldn’t be able to stay in Seal Rock. The place clearly hasn’t sustained the economic downturn.
Was going to stay in Waldport as it was my breakfast stop about 28miles into the days ride. The waitress said there was no place to stay in town as the only motel left went out of business and that I would have better luck in Yachats (I know! what a funny name 🙂
She was right there were lots of options in Yachats and it is a quaint little town. So I got a room hereat the Ya’Tel Motel right on US 101.
After I got settled and did my laundry and washed up I set out for the beach to soak my feet in the cold Pacific Ocean and this is what I saw.
So that’s how I spent my birthday so far. Now I’m going to relax and rest up for tomorrow. Thank you everybody for birthday wishes and if I haven’t responded it’s because I can’t seem to find a phone signal in this funny town. I do have WiFi though so my email works. Hint hint 🙂
