After a not so restful sleep I headed out of Humbug Mtn State Park with the intention of making California.
The ride to Ophir was great. It started with a big climb around Humbug Mtn and was rewarded by a fantastic view of the Pacific.

Going along the coast towards Ophir was beautiful. The weather was great and the views were better.

At Ophir I detoured of the highway at rode an inland route that was little used and pleasant. I ran into my first northbound cycle touring on this road. He was heading from LA to Portland so was almost finished. Wished him luck and went on my way.

As I turned onto North Bank Rogue Rd it’s hard to describe but I no longer felt like I was in Oregon it had a very distinct California vibe. It’s really hard to explain as there is a little over 40 miles left before California at this point.

And here is a neat little viewpoint that I would definitely have missed in a car but saw as I was climbing this hill at about 10mph. It’s the “Natural Bridges”.

And here is what I saw heading into Brookings where I have decided to stop and rest up for the night. It was really hard not to truck the next five miles to get into California but I really want to spend time in the redwoods so a stop now should get me to Redwoods National Park for camp tomorrow.
