Got an early start today. And set out of Brookings on Oceanview Dr that goes along the waterfront and turns into a nice quiet inland road.
I got back on US 101 just long enough to cross the border into California. It was really nice to finally make it to Cali and feels like home to me. Although I am going to miss Oregon such a beautiful ride and an amazing diverse coastline.
And then immediately got back onto a nice quiet side road that took me along US 101 and then into farm country to a little town call Smith River.
This struck me as a very Californian thing. One thing I noticed is the car culture here is awesome. Lots of nice modified roadsters out and about. You would never see that in Seattle so it was memory of growing up.
Once I got passed the state prison that is.
It was nice to see the Pacific again once I got to the waterfront in Crescent City.
After a breakfast stop here in Crescent City I headed out towards the Redwoods. The road started out a little uneasy as California clearly doesn’t know how to make roads anymore.
I got better but never seemed to stop going up which was OK as I was entering the Del Note Coast Redwoods State Park which was beautiful. It really was impressive to see those giants as I was slowly climbing. I eventually peaked out at 1189ft!
Then I was rewarded by this.
Then the road turned inland towards Klamath and went through the amazing canopy of green.
I thought Paul Bunyan and his ox were from Minnesota? Hey buddy!
And that ends the day. I stopped a bit early to get mind right for another big climb in the morning and a nice trek through more amazing redwoods.
