Day 145 Portland, ME-Portsmouth, NH
After goodbyes and contact details exchanged with my amazing host Nancy I was off on my first ride in a few days and my first ride back in the states.
The route did not disappoint. An impromptu stop in Cape Porpoise for lunch turned into the highlight of the day. My sever, a delightful woman named Bert, was charming. Paying the bill and an ID check started the conversation of why a guy from Seattle is on the southern coast of Maine. After telling her about my trip, she was it was super cool and saw me off with a wave and a tip to stop by the local lighthouse (unfortunately my pictures didn’t turn out) which was well worth it.
Then is was through the summer play town of the elite class Kennbunkport, ME complete with the most Vote for Trump signs I have every seen. The name might sound familiar because it is where both president Bushes vacationed while in office, and after I guess. It was a pretty place for sure, but I could sense that I shouldn’t stop and just keep pedaling.
After some time I made it to Kittery and then across Memorial Bridge to Portsmouth, my second state since arriving three day days ago.
Tomorrow will be another coastal ride to Boston, MA and another home stay and hopefully some exploration time.
