Day 146 Portsmouth, NH-Boston, MA
I was looking forward to getting to Boston. I think for me Boston seemed like some sort of milestone that I had to cross fro something. But I was glad that I rained in a little bit after an impromptu text this morning that suggested that I see a bit of Portsmouth.
That few words changed my outlook on the day. It reminded me that this whole trip, tour, lifestyle is more that clocking in the miles or getting to some mythical destination. It is about the journey seeing and interacting with my surroundings on an organic level. Traveling by bicycle whether it to Cuba or even down to the local grocery store for dinner requires of us that recognition and interaction with our surroundings. That doesn’t change on a cycle tour, but you do and as I have gradually changed into a more interesting version of myself it is nice to have these little reminders to take stock in the now and enjoy the freaking journey.
It was with that mindset I set out this morning to Boston but not before a quick jaunt around the historic town of Portsmouth, NH and it was a beautiful day for riding a bit chilly but the sun was out and traffic was light.
Nice morning light in old town Portsmouth. I wanted to take more photos of the historic downtown but nothing jumped out at me
That changed as I was heading down the 1A towards Boston. A group of Turkeys were just hanging out in the road, I think maybe they were suicidal as Thanksgiving will be upon us soon.
Salem was a bust for cool memorials on the Salem witch trials (I guess I could get a healthy dose of persecution by looking how my country treats those of islamic faith) The museum seemed interesting but out of my budget so a picture is it. As I got turned around and lost in Salem I came across Hamilton Hall which was the hang out for 17th century elitists (No reason for the likes of me to go in)
A peak out the window of my host for the next two nights Deborah who lives in the Beacon Hill neighborhood. I am looking forward to exploring the area tomorrow and will report back on the shiny objects and people that catch my eye.
See you then…
