So as I settle into a routine I realize that my optimal daily mileage is about 65 miles. Around 60 I start to run out of gas. I guess I can adjust my nutrition but I’m pretty happy with how my body is holding up so I’ll just try to keep it at my edge or better. But I digress let’s start at the beginning of today.
After a lite snack and some coffee I headed out of Klamath.

It was a bit chilly to start but after a short climb I was warmed up enough. I got of onto Newton Drury Pkwy which started with a really long climb but it was nice because there was nobody else on the road. This road is the scenic route through the Redwoods National Forest. I was truly amazing to ride through those giants on a bike and really feel there presence.

It’s hard to tell from those pictures how big these trees really are so here is some context.

After a long trip through the Redwoods I was ready for breakfast. And right about the 20 mile mark I hit Orick and stopped here at the Palm Cafe.
As I was going in I ran into these two young dudes that were doing a test run on their motorcycles for a North American loop their going to do. They were really nice and we chatted about traveling and what not. I wished them luck they did the same and set off.

After a delicious breakfast I set out and soon saw my buddy the Pacific.

After a short jump back on the 101 I got off and on a bike trail that took me the back way to Arcata which is a neat little college town.

From Arcata it was a long tiring journey on the 101 to Eureka and the Townhouse Motel my home for the night. This is a pretty weird place. You can see into the parking lot from the hallway. Never stayed in a place like it, but it’s clean and cheap so I win.

Today was pretty diverse and interesting. From the Redwoods to the Ocean to farmland.
We’ll see what tomorrow brings!
