Day 180 Williamsburg, VA-Chesapeake, VA (6 months)
What a day!
It mark 180 days since leaving on this journey from Seattle heading to points north. What a journey it has been. Riding across Canada was amazing and all the wonderful people I’ve met is why I keep going.
Today was a perfect example of the human spirit. Getting an early start was my agenda but first I decided to forego teh breakfast at the hotel (donuts) and opted for a nice breakfast. A consultation with Google sent me to the Colonial Pancake House, the breakfast was amazing and the proprietor was great as well, she wanted to know about my trip and thought it was pretty awesome (the typical reaction from people is, right on good for you, be safe).
What was exceptional was when I go to pay my bill, she says she’d like to cover my breakfast and enjoy my trip! She wouldn’t let me pay, it was amazing and as I was leaving a tip for my great service I was still in wow mode as I thanked here for her kindness.
That simple act set a great tone for the day, and as I got to on the ferry from Jamestown it was repeated. Waiting for the ferry I got to talking to Rick (also waiting for the ferry). After talking about the journey and travelling in general Rick ask if I could use a first aid kit (of course) and hands over a brand new kit from his truck storage along with some bungee cords! All with a smile and a right on enjoy your journey!
Virginia so far has been a lesson in manners. Everybody has been fantastic and the drivers have been very courteous. It has been a pleasure and I couldn’t think of a more fitting end to my 6 month mark than today.
The ride after to Chesapeake was great too, the weather was warm and sunny and the miles were long but not taxing. Now it’s time for a little rest. Tomorrow starts my tour of the Outer Banks, which I am looking forward to immensely.
If ever in Williamsburg, VA do stop at the Colonial Pancake House, wonderful food from wonderful people
For those that don’t know where cotton comes from.
Part of my road today, was unpaved. A few of the roads had posted no trespassing signs. Unfortunately for the law, going around would have added 40 miles to my day. I took my chances and all was fine 🙂
