Day 75 Espanola-Manitowaning
Today is day 75 of my cross Canada tour and so far it has been better than I expected, I’ve met some fantastic people and have seen some amazing places. Looking forward to the East Coast and the Maritimes.
But back to today. I got a leisurely start this morning getting on the bike about 9AM and the weather was great, nice a sunny. Perfect for a the trek across Manitoulin Island. I soon got into a group of wicked hills that seemed to never end as I climbed and climbed. But even with all the climbing it was quite beautiful to be off the main highway and on a quieter road.
It was nice to meet a fellow tourer John who started in Maine and was heading into the states at Sault Ste Marie and on to California. We spent a fair amount of time talking about how great it is to do this and all the wonderful things we’ve seen. After bidding my new friend John safe travels I continued on my way.
You see lots of things along the side of the road like pieces of cars/trucks, diapers, trucker pee bottles and trash. But in all my bike touring this is a first!
The road to Manitowaning was quite nice and the hills started to calm down.
I met back up with the Ruru’s in town who were sucking down ice cream cones as I rolled up to join them. I decided to stay in town and do the short 40km to the ferry and on to Tobermory tomorrow.
Until then…
I think that is a sign to always be prepared, on every journey no matter how…long…
