Day 76 Manitowaning-Tobermory
Today was a planned short day with a long ferry ride from Manitoulin Island to Tobermory, Bruce Pennisula northwest of Toronto.
But even though it was a short day it was not easy as the wind was crazy. I also decided about halfway that I wanted to catch the early ferry rather that take the afternoon ferry. I also wanted to catch the Ruru’s who left about 5 minutes before me.
With that goal in mind I was pushing pretty hard to get there in time and luckily for me I got my ticket and was on board about 3 minutes before sailing. That’s cutting it close! Unfornately I never caught the Ruru’s who were hammering pretty hard as well. So we all made the boat which was fun.
We got into Tobermory about 11am, much to early to check into the hotel, so after a failed attempt to explore Bruce Penninsula National Park I reunited with the Ruru’s for some downtown sights and all you can eat delicious fish and chips (how can you go wrong with that!)
Why is this Kiwi so happy? All you can eat fish and chips of course 🙂
In a couple of days I’ll be in Toronto for some much needed bike service. THe Surly has been limping along since Winnipeg and has been an absolute trooper. It deserves the pampering and I deserve the rest.
Hey Ken,
Been following the blog. Keep it up, you’ll hit the atlantic soon enough.
If you’re looking for a Surley shop in Toronto I highly recommend Liberty Street Cyclery. A great shop, great staff and service 416 – 516 – 8880. I also recommend The Bike Joint 416 -532 – 6392, straight out repair shop, again highly recommended.
Both are downtown, west end, sorry don’t have much knowledge of whats in the burbs.
For a great Toronto experience, and our semi official foodstuff, head to the St Lawrence Market and get a peameal bacon sandwich on a Kiaser from Carrousel bakery. Then head to the basement for pirogies.
Cheers,
Mike

Thanks for the tips Mike,
Always looking for a sandwich. As for bike shops I do need some work done mainly chain/cassette and a new brooks as I broke mine. I was thinking Sweet Pete’s as a one stop shop, what can you tell me about them?
Thanks
Yes, Sweet Pete’s is also on the list of good ones . Tend to be busy but always on the ball, recommend the original shop at 1204 Bloor 416 – 533 – 4481 but they do have an outpost at the Brickworks (worth a visit, recycled brick factory now an e-industry incubator) 416 – 533- 1411 far less busy but call ahead i think they are closed early weekdays
Regards
If you need a new Brooks saddle (have fun with the break in..) MEC is 20 – 50 bucks cheaper than most shops, Email me and i’ll give you my account number and save you the membership fee
I didn’t even think about that, Nice I’ll try MEC first, I got an account with them, a while back.
Talked to Sweet Pete’s. They’re pretty busy but suggest calling a day or so ahead of time to check availablity and they’ll do what they can to fit you in.
Thanks Mike!
