Days 101-102 Saint Andre-Riviere Du Loop-Rimouski
I kicked off my second 100 days with a short ride from Saint Andre to Riviere Du Loop, where I planned to get some work done and rest the legs after two brutal days of riding into a massive headwind with the added bonus of raining the whole second day to Saint Andre.
I woke up and had a nice breakfast which set the tone for the day and it got even better with the weather outside. A complete shift from the previous day, it was absolutely gorgeous!
It was a nice leisurely pace to Riviere Du Loop where I had booked a BnB for the night. Unfortunately I couldn’t check in early as they were still busy and I have problems concentrating in coffee shops. But lucky for me, I was able to drop my bags and head out on a 3 1/2 hour whale boating adventure!
Me and about a 1000 of my closest Canadian friends sardined ourselves onto this boat to go see the whales.
Another large ship on the St. Lawrence River, yup this is still a river!
Whales!
More Whales! We got to see the belugas, a fin, the behemoth blue! and this here Minke. It was a great day even though no whales breached there was fun to be had. It’s amazing how enormous these beautiful creatures are… Stunning
When I got back I was greeting by my old cycling buds, yup the Ruru’s. Always nice to run into these folks and it happens so much that it’s no longer a surprise. After some catch up on the goings on since last we seen each other we all parted to get our work done and rest for the night.
Today’s ride to Rimouski was glorious after another nice breakfast (this might be the key to type of day I have, hmmm) I said goodbye and happy travels once again to the Ruru’s who are taking the southern route to New Brunswick along the U.S. Border. I’ve opted to take a route a little north that connects up with the northside of New Brunswick and the to Prince Edward Island.
The day was fast with one of the few tailwinds I’ve had this trip I was able to maintain a healthy pass and get into town around lunchtime where I met my host and got settle in. but soon popped out as once again I lost my cycling gloves at another rest stop today. Sigh….
Now those that know my design sensibility know that I love negative white space but this guy is taking it to a whole new level on that Mustang!
Rimouski is right on the St. Lawrence River about 150km before the river opens up into the Gulf of St. Lawrence.
Libraries always have the coolest statues
Tomorrow my goal is to get to Amqui, QC en route to New Brunswick. I’m open to the road dictating whether that pans out that way or not, so stay tuned to see what happens.
Until then…
