Days 105-106 Campbellton-Bathurst-Miramichi
Day 105:
Got a late start to the day mostly because of the time change which hit me like a brick but also because of the strange BnB in Campbellton and the odd conversation with the proprietor.
I finally got on the road about 8:30am and was happy to get moving. It was going to be a long day and I doubt it will go as fast as the rid into Campbellton.
My first observation is my doubts were right and it was a tough day with lots of climbing. It was a happy sight to see Bathurst for sure.
Not a bad view to get started though and I’m a sucker for coastal riding.
I found Super Mario’s summer cottage in New Brunswick. Or is it luigi’s…
Day 106:
Was a bit more of the same it was very difficult to get up this morning, my clock hasn’t figured out the time yet.
My route to Miramichi had me going all over the place to avoid riding on the highway which is generally a good thing. For the most part the roads were all mine and pretty fun to ride. I got turned around in Allardsville and decided that the round about way was stupid so got on highway 8 which brought it’s own kind of intensity.
The shoulder was little to nonexistent and the traffic although zooming by was really rather respectful. I kept waiting for a cop to stop me but it never happened. What did happen is I knocked off 300km of meandering that the GPS wanted me to do! I finally got into Miramichi beat down from the last few day and had some decisions to make. I wasn’t feeling another 30km to the nearest campground, Wild camping was not in the cards either today, all the hotels were booked. After some time I finally found an odd little hostel located on an old military base in town, for less than a campsite I got a nice bed and a hot shower, Plus the added bonus of being able to catch the tail end of the local Air Show (Sorry no pics, just imagine planes doing flips and whirls while shooting out streams of colored smoke and you were there with me 🙂
I just rode across this bridge. Bridges are nerve wracking because most arc up to the center which makes fro a heavy climb on one side and a fast decent on the other all in tight quarters 200ft off the ground.
Canada’s Irish Capital!
Tommorow is a short 110km to Shediac where I booked a much needed rest day. Luckily it’s the home of the worlds largest lobster so I’m excited about that as well as some lobster rolls!
