Days 112-113 Pictou-Antigonish-Port Hood
Day 112 Pictou to Antigonish
I woke up this morning to a heavy dose of dark clouds that promised rain. Lucky for me that the clouds mean cool and it was a nice reprieve from the recent heat. It was a great ride to Antigonish along the coast and through a few small villages along the way.
It started to heat up around lunchtime and with all the climbing throughout the day it was a welcome sight to see Antigonish which looked like a cool little town with a vibrant downtown main street. After a quick stop to the grocery store it was time to rest up and plan my route around Cape Breton.
Day 113 Antigonish to Port Hood
Hello bad weather I hope you clear out before I get to the high elevations along the Cape Breton Trail. In other words it was not a great day for cycling with on and off heavy rain all day with a healthy headwind to boot. So once a mother nature has thwarted my plans and cut my ride short. That’s quite alright it was a good day.
About 40km into my ride I stopped for coffee and as I was getting back on the rode I spotted another tourer coming up behind me. That’s when I met Kelly from Seattle (yes, another Seattlite) We had a nice long chat on the side of the road and rode together to the visitor office up the way and then on towards the coast were we stopped in Judique for lunch. It’s also where we parted she was heading towards Madou to check out some Celtic square dancing which sounded like fun, but I’m coming down with a cold and was in need of rest so I decided to book a place in Port Hood just shy of Madou and fun times.
Hopefully my decision pays off and I wake up in better shape than I feel right now. Tomorrow, if the weather agrees, will be a big climbing day but should be worth it with the views fro the next few days and I traverse the Cabot trail.
Until then I’ll leave you with a couple shots I got in between raindrops
Hey there’s Kelly beating me to Cape Breton 🙂
