Days 138-142 Halifax-Yarmouth
It was a welcome respite to have a few days off in Halifax to get some work done, repairs on the bike as well as pick up some much needed cold weather gear as mercury is dropping rapidly.
After visiting the Maritime Museum and walking around the Citadel with a friend along with a few other choice destinations I spent the rest of my time between bike shops and the library to work. Luckily for me the hostel was conveniently located between everything I needed.
After some research I decided to not ride from Halifax to Yarmouth to catch my ferry as the season is winding down and it’s not uncommon for the ferry to be canceled (If I missed it I would have to ride back north to New Brunswick and back south to Maine, I didn’t want to do that!). Even so the shuttle was a long 4 1/2 hour drive and brutal for someone not used to being in a car, along the way we stopped in Mahone Bay which was a nice little village that was right in the middle of their Scarecrow Festival. After a long drive it was nice to get into Yarmouth which will be my last Canadian destination for some time.
Even though I have been heading south since St. Johns on the Atlantic coast tour it hasn’t struck me until today that after so long I’ll be leaving Canada tomorrow. I am looking forward to getting south but I must say I will miss this amazing Country, it’s beautiful scenery and more so the warm and friendly people I have had the pleasure of meeting along the way. Thank you Canada for an amazing adventure and sharing your stories with me.
Tomorrow night I will be back in the United State which is far from united at the moment. Portland ME will be my port of call and then it’s off south playing the weather game as I try to stay in front of the cold as much as I can while still stopping and enjoying the adventure.
But until then here is a bit more of my time in Halifax and Nova Scotia
These hat boxes were fascinating! I never considered how the ships captain would store his prized hat when not using it, I just assumed they wore the hat all the time 🙂
The Halifax Public Library is beautiful!
A last visit to the library before I leave Halifax was a treat as Eljuri was having a concert in the library. This group was great and part of the festival showcasing Women in the Arts.
