Days 22 Revelstoke-Golden
I planned fro a long day but it was longer than I thought. MY touring pal Brent let me know there were no provisions all the way to Golden. As I didn’t have any food with me I had to start later than I wanted to pick up some food to get me over the pass.
After a stop at the grocery and with all my gear dried out and packed away I set out from Revelstoke ready for the big climbs of the day. The weather was beautiful out with some intermittent showers.
I can tell you it’s not really a good feeling when your going uphill and you see this
See what that says? Yup “Caution Bear on Rode” It made for a lot of head swinging as I made my way up. Luckily I didn’t run into any on this leg.
After some I made it to the top of Rogers Pass all 1330m/4364ft of it!
When your up this high you might see some mountain goats
The nice thing about a climb like that there is always a nice downhill on the other side. Rogers Pass did not disappoint, with a fast 20km downhill.
After what seemed like forever I started getting closer to Golden BC. I misjudged the about off distance left thinking I only had about 10k to get into town, then I saw the sign 35km to Golden and my resolve sunk. Those last 3k were brutal and took my a long time. Along the way I did get a nice view of the Columbia Mountain Range, they look like a group of soldiers marching.
After a while longer I finally made it to Golden and got checked in. After a ride like that I decided to take a rest day to recover. Which I need because I have been sick all day, it is my stomach again and now I have absolutely nothing in me after a fun vomit filled day. I am feeling a bit better now, so I’m going try and eat something as I need the food in me for another long climb tomorrow.
The nice thing was I got to reconnect with my New Zealand friends Brent and Claire who also took a rest day here and left this morning to Banff. SO I’ll be following in their footsteps.
