Days 59-60 Kenora-Vermilion Bay-Ignace
I am still riding on a broken seat, so before it fails completely I’m trying to cover as much distance as I can and get to Thunder Bay as fast as possible. So the 100km to Vermilion Bay was a good start and shortly after I got there a storm rolled it. I lucked out on that one! 🙂
It was a beautiful more out of Kenora and the scenery in Ontario has been nothing short of amazing especially after the monotony of the plains.
The bugs are big here in Ontario!
I finally made it to Vermilion Bay. There has been a ton minature version of these stone guys all over since I got into Ontario. They are a welcome sight on the road guaranteed to bring a smile, whoever put them up should be commended.
In the thick of a major Thunderstorm here in Vermilion Bay!
This morning all signs of the storm were gone and it was absolutely gorgeous out.
Stumbled upon this giant sheep who clearly is practicing it’s superb miming skills.
About 50km out of Ignace I ran into Emeline and Nicolas from France (undeuxtroiscanada.com) who are heading from Montreal to Vancouver. It was a pleasure to meet them and we had a nice conversation on the side of the road. These impromptu roadside meeting are an absolute joy, part of what this journey is all about is meeting like minded people on their own adventures 🙂
It was a long 150km today with a tremendous amount of climbing (2000ft). All in all it was a good day and tomorrow brings another 100km plus day which would get me to Thunder Bay the day after tomorrow.
I’ll leave you with the very unique sign for the Ontario Provincial Police. But what stands out in my mind is the Naughty by Nature song O.P.P.
How are you finding hwy 17? We were told to go the southern route via Fort Francis but I’m not keen on that due to there being even less amenities that direction than on the 17. Are the trucks and shoulder as bad as they say?
Hi Michelle,
The shoulder is small and sometimes nonexistent, I’ve found the truckers to be quite respectful. I’ve been riding mainly in the mornings before all the RVs show up and it has been fine.
