Days 66-67 Terrace Bay-Marathon
After a light breakfast I set out from Terrace Bay and immediately ran into a fellow tourer heading west. I never got his name so we’ll call him Mr. Drummond because he reminded me of the Different Strokes patriarch. We talked a bit about whats to come and after wishing each other will and safe travels I set off east.
It was another tough day of riding with a lot of long climbs and lots of construction. But there was some beautiful surroundings so the ride was pleasant.
As a cyclist I love to see these signs out on the road, they mean you have a fun, fast downhill coming up. THe fastest I’ve gone so far this tour is 68km and with the bike loaded the Surly handles like a cadillac.
I thought this was a nice relationship with both the road and the railroad tracks taking the same turn.
After some time I finally made it to Marathon and it felt like I ran one.
This morning I woke to bad weather, and after waffling back and forth on whether I should just truck on. I finally mentally committed to staying in Marathon an extra day. Even though the weather cleared up my legs are thankful for the rest after tha last few days of climbs and the hard day of pushing a seized wheel the 140km to Thunder Bay a few days ago.
So I spent a bit of the day taking a stroll down to Pebble Beach which were not quite pebbles but large rock. It was pleasant to sit and listen to the water. Lake Superior is so big I thought I was sitting at the ocean and it was a peaceful respite, just the sound of the waves crashed on the rocks is sweet music to my ears.
isn’t superior something else?
Superior was amazing, it’s so big I thought I was at the ocean
