Days 95-96 Montreal-Berthierville-Deschambault
After a great time in Montreal is was time to get back on the road. I didn’t go into the day with any agenda other than making progress towards Quebec City.
Au Revoir Montreal it’s been great!
A bright spot on the day was running into Marty Mcfly and his old man 🙂
It was tough going, not sure if it was because of all the breaks recently or what but my legs were shot and I couldn’t get into a rhythm which doesn’t make for an enjoyable day riding. I gave up on the day in Berthierville after about 90km. It wasn’t a total loss though as the ride from Montreal to Berthierville was quite picturesque once I got out of the City (The 30km of start stop riding from one end to the other took forever).
Saw this cool car just before I bedded down for the day.
Woke up early to get a jump on today as it will be a long 140km to my next stop that I pre-booked for motivation. Breakfast at the hotel was interesting, I was really hoping for a protein (rather than the usual toast) but wasn’t up for baked beans at 6am so stuck to the usual. and hit the road.
Today started out much better and I was able to get into a rhythm after some time. I ran into some other tourers when I stopped for coffee: Matthew from Toronto heading to Nova Scotia recognized my 2020 bike shop hat from Seattle as he’s been there on the way down the west coast. After some chatting about touring stories he was off on an ambitious 240km day from Berthierville to Quebec City. God speed Matthew and hopefully we can reconnect in New Brunswick. At the same place I met Mckayla and her brother John who where on their way to New Brunswick from Ottawa. We had a nice conversation about horse flies, if you’ve never experienced these little bastards count yourself among the lucky.
It was a hot day out but a pleasant ride on the Chemin Du Roy (The Kings Road) as it was a relatively quite two-lane road that meanders along the water going through every little village along the way. And all the villages have their own distinct charm dating back to the 1600’s
Which brings me to Deschambault a cute little village where I booked a BnB for the night.
Tomorrow is a short day to my hostel in Levis just on the other side of the river from Quebec City but on the side I’m going to take heading north around New Brunswick. I will spend an extra day here to take in short trip to Quebec City.
If Ottawa taught me anything it is not to underestimate what you’ll see around the bend, so I’m looking forward to exploring Quebec City.
I’ll show you what I find…
